Yesterday we saw a gathering in Hoylake protesting changes to housing those seeking sanctuary in this country.
Co-leader of Wirral Green Councillors, Gail Jenkinson (pictured centre) said “This has caused real distress to people who are already in a difficult situation.
Some of the anger expressed appears to be based on misinformation, including a social media post from Conservative councillors which was inaccurate and irresponsible. Elected representatives should know better.
The government decision will relocate families with children who attend local schools, are supported by local networks and fellow residents and have become part of the community. They face the uncertainty of losing all of that and being scattered who knows where and will be worried enough already.
We would urge people to make any complaints about the proposed change to their local MP, who is their representative in the government making these rules.
We would also like to thank the police for serving and protecting everyone who lives in Hoylake, including people who have fled violence. Anyone who has any concerns about illegal activity should contact them directly.”
